Gastronomy Blog

As a special treat for my birthday we first went to the Irish Pub in Siena for cider.  Our friends Ted and Mollie were good sports and agreed to eat Chinese food for dinner.  Not what most Americans on vacation in Tuscany would eat but hey, when in Italy eat like the natives, eat Chinese!  We stopped at Ristorante Cinese “Buon Appetito” in Ruffalo just outside Siena.  I am happy to say that one of the owners now recognizes me even before Ben walked in.  That is always a milestone.

There is an impressive canopy of lights outside now.

We started with egg rolls, then soup and then an assortment of dishes.

It was a great meal.  And look what I had waiting at home….

Yes indeed, the next best thing to that 3 layer chocolate cake with whipped cream filling that I sometimes make for my birthday.  Hostess cupcakes.  One of my favs.  Ted and Mollie had brought a whole box of them to me.  So very special.  Mollie and I spent the rest of the evening sitting on the terrace drinking champagne and admiring the stars.  I’m thinking that some of the rest of my friends should be planning their birthdays here.  This whole celebration thing is kind of fun!
